Can I legally marry in Greece?
In Greece, if you want to legally marry, you can either have a religious service or a civil wedding ceremony. You do not need to be a Greek citizen nor resident, but you will need to be at least 18-years-old. Although, Greece is a culturally liberal country, same sex marriages are not yet legal. What documents do I need to have for a civil wedding in Greece?
In Greece, civil wedding ceremonies are officiated by Mayors or other designated Municipal staff. Therefore, the documentation may vary, depending on your wedding location. In addition, documents vary depending your nationality and/or country of residency. Consequently, to avoid any omissions, we ask you to contact us in advance. This way, we can contact the relevant international/local authorities and send you a list with the required documents.
How do I register my civil marriage in Greece?
For the civil marriage to become legal, it needs to be registered at the local Registrar’s Office (Lixiarhio). The registration needs to take place within 40 days following the ceremony, by the couple or by a proxy.
